The #coops4dev research team participated in a webinar hosted by Saint Mary's College, Canada on 18 October. Ms. Simren Singh from the ICA-AP office, Mr. Jeffrey Moxom from the ICA global office and Mr. Melvin Khabenje from ICA Africa presented findings from the coops4dev’s newly launched report on Cooperation for the Transition to a Green Economy.
About 40 participants from different countries attended the webinar. The live polls showed that about 60% of the participants (25 people) noted that climate change effects can be seen by them locally, only 33% of the participants (13 people) noted that they see cooperatives as a clear model to tackle climate change while 34% (14 people) stated that cooperatives are not taking desired interventions and leading to a greener economy. The discussions at the end of the presentation were constructive and participants recognised the heightened role and potential of cooperatives to address climate change in the future.
