The ICA Committee on Consumer Cooperation for Asia and the Pacific (ICA-AP Consumer Committee) held its 52nd Annual Meeting in Kuala Lumpur on December 6, 2018. It was hosted by ANGKASA, Malaysia. Seven Committee members and five observers from seven countries and organizations attended this meeting.

The meeting commenced with an opening address by Mr. Haruyoshi Amano, Chairperson of the Committee. This year the Committee added a new member from the National Agriculture Co-operative Federation (NACF), Korea. The Committee members made presentations of their recent activities and business results, which were followed by active discussions. Mr. Sungjoon Kang, Secretary of the Committee, tabled the Activity Report for the period 2017-2018 and 2018-2019.

The election of the Chairperson and two Vice-Chairpersons also took place. Mr.  Haruyoshi Amano of JCCU, Japan, was re-elected as Chairperson of the Committee.  Mr. Leong Sim Poh of NTUC FairPrice, Singapore and Mr. Kamaruddin Ismail of ANGKASA, Malaysia were elected as Vice-Chairpersons unanimously.

Mr. Leong Sim Poh, Secretary/Director (Legal), NTUC Fairprice, Singapore will be retiring next year having served the Co-operative for 26 years. The ICA-AP Consumer Committee would like to place on record his invaluable contribution to developing the co-operative movement of the Asia-Pacific region.

The next Committee Meeting will be held on November 19 and 20, 2019 in Tokyo, Japan.
