
The ICA-AP Committee on Youth Cooperation (ICYC) organised an international webinar on Youth Engagement for the Global Action on 12th August 2020, to connect, learn and strengthen the youth cooperative movement. The webinar aimed to promote youth-driven cooperatives by recognising the needs and interests of the youth rather than working for them.
Ms. Salonie Muralidhara, Senior Coordinator, SEWA Federation, India spoke on Engage (SDG# 17 Partnerships for the Goals: Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development); Mr. Samuel Oloo, Chairperson, Mutarakwa Harmony Cooperative, Kenya, Africa on Educate (SDG#4 Quality Education: Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all); and Ms. Emily AM Lippold Cheney, Global Cooperative Activist, USA as youth speakers on, Employ (SDG#8 Decent Work and Economic Growth: Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all) during the panel one session.
The second panel had two guest speakers: Mr. Balasubramanian Iyer, Regional Director, ICA-AP spoke of how ICA-AP is promoting the cooperative model among youth and Mr. Bruno Roelants, Director-General, ICA who shared insights on the role of youth in the ICA Strategy 2020-2030.
The webinar was moderated by Mr. David Rodger from UK, former Chief Executive of CDS Cooperatives, former President of Cooperative Housing International (2009-2013) and an expert advisor to ICA’s Principles Committee.
