The Department of Co-operative Development (CDC) from Sri Lanka has joined the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) in November 2020. With this, ICA-AP now has 110 members from 32 countries in the Asia and Pacific region.
The Department of Cooperative Development (DCD) is presently established under the Ministry of Industry & Commerce, Resettlement of Protracted Displaced Persons, Cooperative Development and Vocational Training & Skills Development. There are 75 national-level cooperative federations and societies are registered under DCD. The objectives and functions of DCD include:
Registering national level cooperative unions / federations and all island cooperative societies and guide them.
Doing financial audits annually of all registered cooperative unions/federations and societies.
Coordinating between the government and the cooperation.
Propagating cooperative business.
Maintaining good governance and strengthening cooperative societies.
Conducting cooperative societies along with cooperative policies and Cooperative Act No. 05 of 1972.
Coordinating between institutes and external parties related to cooperative service.
Assisting the government in development projects launching.
Coordinating all provincial cooperative departments.
Making a cooperative policy and coordinating each province to execute the policy.
